Meaningful Change: Ideas to stay on track, accountable, and focused

Now that’s what I call timely and meaningful change.

During our follow-up session together, we brainstormed about ideas to stay on track, focused, and accountable throughout the year. I thought I would share those with you today.

  • Start journaling on a regular basis. You can’t lie to yourself when you journal.
  • Be very intentional on how you manage finite resources – your time, your money, and the information you focus on.
  • Keep your goals visible – make a wallet size reminder and put it in your day planner; frame your goals; put your goals on your bathroom mirror; create a vision board.
  • Track your money with Mint.com, Quicken, or some other tool to keep you financially accountable.
  • Think about the worst that could possibly happen. Once you face that fear head-on, you might realize that it’s easier to embrace a bold and audacious attitude than you thought.
  • Use the 24-hour rule – wait at least 24 hours before purchasing something that is a “want” and not a “need.”
  • Leave your wallet in the car!
  • Get involved with groups that support your goals. Meetup.com is a great resource for this.
  • Take 1 action a day. Small steps on a consistent basis create success.
  • Learn how to say No.

I would love to hear your ideas on how you intend to create yourself in 2009.
