The Gap and the Gain


When I first started skating, all I wanted to be able to do was drop into a three-foot bowl. Check!

Then, I wanted to drop into five-foot bowl. Done!

Next, a six-foot bowl. Nailed it!

The challenge is that every time I gain confidence and competence, my goals change. They are a moving target.

It reminds me of Dan Sullivan’s concept of The Gap and the Gain. The Gain is a measurement from where we started to where we are today. The Gap is a measurement of where we are today compared to where we want to go.

When we are making a change or starting something new, how do these measurements impact our mindset? How does each measurement play into our future success?
